20th Annual PAL-loween Carnival
Location: Santa Monica Airport’s Barker Hangar
Date and Time: Oct. 31, 5 to 9 p.m.
More than 5,000 attendees are being expected to show up at the hangar for Santa Monica’s biggest Halloween bash, produced by the Santa Monica Police Activities League. Kids can enjoy the haunted fun house, Trick-or-Treat Lane, game booths, a costume contest (starts at 6 p.m.) and Tot Lane.
Admission: Free admission; games and Trick-or-Treat Lane cost 25 cents each; haunted house and photo booth cost $1 each
18th Annual Dream Halloween
Location: Santa Monica Airport’s Barker Hangar Saturday
Date and Time: 5 to 8:30 p.m.

Haunted Heats Halloween Surf Contest
Location: Santa Monica Beach, Tower 26 (at the end of Ocean Park Boulevard);
Date and Time: Saturday, 8 a.m.
All surfers, no matter what age and skill level, are welcome to join and participate in this competition which is hosted by ZJ Boarding House. In order to participate in the competition, you must be in costume. Those who don’t want to compete are welcome to watch.

Halloween Hop
Location: Montana Avenue
Date and Time: Oct. 31, 3 to 6 p.m.
The hip and elegant botiques along Montana will be giving away candy, temporary tattoos, coupons and prizes for costumes at the third-annual Halloween Hop. There will also be face-painting, fortune-telling and a doggie costume contest. To see the list of participating stores, click here.

Halloween Hullabaloo
Location: Santa Monica Playhouse
Date and Time: Saturdays and Sundays, 12:30 and 3 p.m., through Oct. 30
An interactive musical comedy, part of the Family Theatre Musical Matinee Series, will be looking into Halloween’s history. Kids can win prizes, jump onstage and join the actors, take part in sing-a-longs and get face-painted. Kids who arrive in costume will get two-for-one passes to a future Family Theatre production. Reservations required.
Admission: $10.50, 12 and under; $12.50, 13 and up.
Dolls! – Not Your Usual Love Story on Halloween Weekend
Location: Santa Monica Playhouse
Date and Time: Saturday, 7:30; Oct. 30, 6:30 p.m.
If you also show up on the playhouse to Dolls! in costume, you will get $10 off admission to the theatrical musical fantasy, as well as an invitation to a post-show sweets-and-treats reception. There will also be face-painters present half an hour before the shows.
Admission: $26; $22.50 for seniors, students, teachers and members of the military
Flesh and Blood: Book One Launch
Location: Aero Theatre
Date and Time: Wednesday, 7:30 p.m.
Just a few days before Horrorthon, the Aero will be starting up Halloween with a double-feature and discussion about the launch of the latest monster-themed graphic novel Flesh and Blood: Book One. Copies of the novel will be signed at the event. Between screenings of Horror of Dracula(1958) and The Curse of the Werewolf (1961), Bela Lugosi Jr., publisher/artist Kerry Gammill, editor/screenwriter Sam F. Park, writer Robert Tinnell and special-effects artist/filmmaker Mike Hill will be talking about the book. To finish things off, sculptures inspired by Hammer horror films will be on display at the theater.

Phreeques!

This interactive anti-art-house-of-horrors, known as the anti to the cool kids’ Halloween party, will be featuring 30 live performers and eight bands. Party-goers will try to re-create “the mood of the sketchy period in media culture, 1975-1985, when grindhouse became video nasty,” according to a Phreeques! press release.

The Central’s Halloween Party
Where/When: The Central
Date and Time: Saturday, 9 p.m.
This affair, hosted by Audio Absinthe, is only for adults age 21 and older. There will be DJ sets by Dr. Hollywood, Princeton, Cereal Killer, Comfy and Jilly Hendrix, as well as a $100 prize for best Halloween costume.
Admission: $10 in advance, $15 on the day of the show
Tubthump
Location: The Central
Date and Time: Friday, 9 p.m.
On the night before the Central Halloween Party, The Central will be hosting the most recent installment of Tubthump, featuring a ’90s tribute band performing from 9 to 10 p.m., and tunes spun by DJ Corey Moss from 10 p.m. to 2 a.m. Nineties-themed Halloween costume attire would be much appreciated.

Halloween at Finn McCool’s
Location: Finn McCool’s
Date and Time: Saturday, Oct. 30 and Oct. 31, all day and night
Although this Irish Pub is only welcome to adults looking for a drink, from Saturday until Halloween, it will be open to all kids looking for candy. However, there are also attractions for the 21-and-up group: On Saturday at 10 p.m., Finn McCool’s annual Halloween party—featuring creepy cocktails, a prize for the person wearing the best costume, and free Jägermeister tastes and treats—will be under way. On Sunday, candy will be passed out at 5 p.m., while traditional Irish music will be performed by Marian Tomas Griffin starting 30 minutes. And on Monday, Halloween cocktails will again be served.

Nightmares on Main Street

Halloween at Ye Olde King’s Head

A DJ will be playing hits from 2 to 8 p.m., children’s costume party will start at 3 p.m., and “Scaryoke” will be happening from 8 p.m. to 2 a.m. There will also be a costume competition for adults, drink specials and cash prizes.
